Dierbergs is seeking an Assistant Controller to join our fun, close-knit Finance team. About the role
  • Partner with your peers to oversee one or more of the following areas: Corporate Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Asset Accounting, Real Estate Accounting, Sales and Labor Reporting, OSHA Safety, Workers Compensation & General Liability Claims, Payment Services, Business and Liquor Licenses, Sales and Use Tax Reporting, and Internal Audit
  • Directly prepare or perform one or more of the following: Accounting for Dierbergs commissaries and/or floral teams, coordinate and manage annual external audits, review corporate tax returns, manage tax payments and filings, responsible for annual business insurance renewals, schedule and manage physical inventories, bank and cash management, and auto fleet management
  • Assist Finance team in month-end close process; issue timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
  • Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Prepare analyses for outside audit and tax accountants in partnership with Finance team
  • Lead, coach, and develop team; provide guidance in the completion of tasks and deliverables
  • Establish, manage, and monitor work through structures and processes that are effective and efficient
  • Foster a work environment that embodies the core values of Dierbergs, champion and develop an inclusive team environment
  • Lead system upgrades and testing; provide innovative and workable solutions to business challenges
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and various ad hoc analysis as assigned


About you

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes
  • Proficient knowledge of US GAAP and proper internal controls
  • Intermediate Excel skills required; advanced Excel skills a plus
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Skilled leader who is highly capable of managing and developing teams through insightful listening, effective communication, and collaboration
  • Proactive approach in resolving problems and issues; involves the right people to work through complexities and identify potential solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills; builds collaborative relationships across the organization
  • Possess a sense of urgency, self-motivated and detail oriented.


Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing direct reports
  • Public accounting experience preferred
  • Retail and PeopleSoft experience a plus


Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and CPA required
