1. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Summary - (Role Summary)
The Database Engineer will be part of a database engineering team accountable
for delivering Hybrid Cloud solutions and moving our database platform forward
in Cloud technologies. A primary objective is developing database
implementation standards to drive operational excellence. The role requires
delivering database solutions fitting the use cases of the application teams.
You will also provide database engineering support for those database
solutions. This person is tasked with solving difficult and moderately complex
problems. The candidate will be expected to function in an advisory capacity.
The Database Engineer is a senior individual contributor who may mentor other
junior level professionals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - (Key Activities)
Provide support for current on-premise footprint of Oracle RAC on Exadata.
Willing to learn and support additional Open Source database platforms.
Develop standards for and support Cloud implementations of AWS RDS for
Oracle, Google Cloud SQL(Postgres) AWS Aurora (MySQL) and other open-source
offerings.
Contribute to the planning, architecture, design, implementation, standards
creation, maintenance, and support of databases on a variety of platforms
within a complex Hybrid Cloud systems environment.
Perform advanced data analysis, database planning and database coding to
develop database environments that meet customer needs.
Responsible for enhancements to standards documentation and change management
policies while promoting code deployment.
Lead and/or participate in Proof-of-Concept efforts for new database
technologies.
Provide escalation operational support for database systems and participates
in on-call rotation.
Responsible for building complex and efficient database environments to
maximize productivity and improve performance to include reorganization of
database structures as needed, procedures automation at regular intervals, use
of tools to reorganize or de-fragment database table spaces, tables, and
indexes.
Manage production testing and QA database environments. This includes
providing data load programming, creating necessary utility functions for each
data base, system testing and developing an implementation plan.
Responsible for designing replication and DR solutions and participate in DR
activities.
Provide RCA for critical issues in a timely manner.
Assist development teams in producing efficient SQL and query tuning.
Automation - Develop and support Terraform code used for database deployment
and updates.

2. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education -
Bachelor's in a relevant field of work or an equivalent combination of
education and work-related experience.
Experience -
Minimum of 7+ years of progressive work-related experience with demonstrated
proficiency in multiple disciplines, technologies, or processes related to the
position.

Technical Skills and Knowledge -
Advanced knowledge of Oracle database, especially RAC on Exadata or AWS RDS
for Oracle.
Advanced level in troubleshooting database performance and outage issues.
Advanced knowledge of database design and related architecture.
Advanced knowledge of the techniques and methodologies of data management
systems including relational, network and hierarchical systems.
Advanced knowledge of database concepts/design/deployment, recovery
techniques, performance monitoring, tuning and capacity management.
Advanced knowledge of SQL, including programming and ways to optimize SQL
code.
Advanced knowledge and understanding of structured analysis and technical
design techniques.
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
Working knowledge of Golden Gate.
Ability to learn other database technologies including non-relational
database offerings.
Experience with Cloud implementations of MySQL and Postgres databases
including physical design, SQL tuning, cluster builds, replication, backup, and
recovery is a plus.
Experience with Cloud monitoring tools such as AWS Cloudwatch/Performance
Insights and Google Stackdriver/Query Insights is a plus
Advanced project management experience in organizing, planning, and executing
large-scale projects from conception through implementation.
Effective verbal and written communication skills for providing information
to clients, vendors, senior management, and staff.
Ability to mentor teams, share knowledge, and mentor junior database staff.

This position will work closely with client management, IT development teams,
support teams, data center resources, IT management to discuss projects,
provide recommendations on improvement opportunities and operating and
financial performance.
External Key Relationships
Key vendors, professional associations, industry experts to keep informed of
existing and evolving industry standards
