Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)
Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directs and supervises Unit Managers, RN Supervisors and Charge Nurses RN/LPN in effectively accomplishing their duties.
- Acts as liaison between Director of Nursing Services and Unit Managers/RN Supervisors/Charge Nurses RN/LPN
- Acts as a resource person in all areas of resident care.
- Assumes responsibility for coordinating Medical Director/Medical Staff/Consulting Physician rounds.
- Ensures that nursing services staffing needs and schedules are met.
- Assists in the interpretation of facility nursing policies and ensures implementation of these policies.
- Assists in recruitment and selection of nursing services employees.
- Assumes all responsibilities of the Director of Nursing Services in his/her absence.
- Responsible for documenting disciplinary concerns for RN Supervisors and Charge Nurses RN/LPN.
- Verifies that significant clinical developments are reported to the resident's physician and family.
- Ensures Medicare guidelines are met.
Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) Requirements:
- Must possess valid unencumbered, RN State License. Nursing degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Minimum three (3) years of clinical nursing experience within a hospital, nursing care center or other related healthcare setting.
- Must have experience in supervision and principles, practice of teaching, etc.
- Experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices strongly preferred.
- Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
- Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work and team concept.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
- Associate degree in nursing, public health, epidemiology, clinical laboratory science, medical technology or related field.
- Has completed specialized training in infection prevention and control.
- Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology preferred.
