Purpose:

Our Meat Journeymen are devoted to providing the best customer service and the highest product quality possible. Without our Meat Journeyman, our stores wouldn't be the caliber of supermarket our customers have come to expect. This means cutting a wide variety of meats according to company policy, while ensuring each customer receives "Extra Step" customer service.

Job Functions:
  • Provide friendly "Extra Step" customer service to every customer
  • Prepare all cuts of meat, including blocking out side of beef
  • Weigh, price, cut and slice any meat
  • Order and receive merchandise
  • Serve trade, grind meat, cube steaks, and patty steaks
  • Prepare merchandise for meat clerks
  • Use all tools, including power tools (saws, hand or power), grinder, cubing machine, patty machine, sealer, barbecue equipment, wrapper machine, conveyor, etc.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards of all equipment and department
  • May perform work in the Service Meat Department
  • Promote products and utilize suggestive selling techniques to satisfy the customers' needs
  • Process customer orders accurately by clarifying and checking for understanding
  • Examine, stock, and rotate meats according to sell by date
  • Break down loads and transfer to carts
  • Cut, trim, and weigh meats for production and customer requests
  • Work in varied temperature controlled environments (refrigerator and freezer)
  • Lift an average of 30 lbs., up to 90 lbs.
  • Push or pull 6-wheel stock carts with loads weighing up to 250 lbs.
  • Work actions require standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and squatting
  • Keep work area sanitary by using company approved cleaners and equipment
  • Follow safe food handling guidelines according to S.A.F.E. program standards

Expectations for all Dierbergs Associates:
  • Conform to Dierbergs dress code, appearance, and personal hygiene standards
  • Be flexible in scheduling (including weekends and holidays)
  • Maintain prompt, regular, and dependable attendance as scheduled
  • Associates in food handling departments are required to receive a Hepatitis A vaccination

Must be able to:
  • Read basic information (ex: equipment operating manuals, product names and codes, and reference guides)
  • Use basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, conversions, and percentages
  • Understand use of weights and measures
  • Listen and communicate from verbal to written instructions

Qualifications:

Must be a skilled meat cutter or completed a meat cutter apprenticeship
